January 2019 President’s Letter,

When I became President, I stressed we as a club wanted to honor our past and celebrate the future. We have not only had an amazing year, we constantly achieve new heights. The club remains full and the waiting list continues to grow. The old traditions remain as popular as ever, yet we as a club continue to introduce new ones. Dartball and chicken Sunday are a tradition like no other. Bringing back a tradition of the past, the Christmas Eve party is as popular as ever. The bar was fully renovated and ready to serve its members, spouses and guests for another 100 years. The club’s 100th year anniversary will be a yearlong celebration with signature events every month. Have you seen the special edition etched Bonnycastle Club anniversary bottle of bourbon? Not only did the committee secure a rare 14-year-old bourbon, the committee had the bottle etched with the 100-year anniversary logo. It looks amazing!

December calendar is always full with parties, special events. However, this past December saw something amazing. At our annual Adult Christmas Party our members and guests proved that the Christmas spirit is alive and well. The club raised approximately $4,200.00 for this years charity. This year the board decided to donate all funds raised to the Hibernian Cultural and Charitable Association. While the list is too long to mention the Hibernian’s favorite charity of late has been supporting the underprivileged children at Boys and Girls Haven. The Hibernians also support worthy and touching causes such as the Derby City Dragons–breast cancer survivors; the New Albany Cemetary–burying infants with dignity in marked graves, and finally Maryhurst. All worthy local charities. The board is already looking at two additional charities for future events. I can not express in words the power of our charitable actions, but to quote –“ we can not do great things, only small things with great love”. The money raised was an accumulation of small donations made with love. In honoring our past, the club again will be raising money for children at Home of the Innocents. The annual Don Duggins traditional New Years Day dinner is January 1st and all proceeds will be donated to the Home of the Innocents.

January kicks off with a Bloody Mary bar, basketball is in full swing, and two meals on Sundays. We will be hosting an “Italian Experience” which is sure to be a great night. The annual Inaugural dinner will be done in conjunction with the 100th year Anniversary video. Every member will be provided a video at no cost. It’s almost impossible to not have something to do at the club. As I finish this month’s letter and we begin the new year, I would like to quote Ralph Waldo Emerson–“write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year”. May all be blessed this upcoming year with a health and have a safe and prosperous new year.

Again, please call me should you wish to discuss any of the items above further or wish to discuss another subject.

Yours truly,
Larry Marko

Bonnycastle Club 2018 President
