Here’s hoping everyone had a great 4th of July and is now ready to enjoy the remaining months of summer with the Bonnycastle Club being a major part of that enjoyment! This is the first of the Manager’s Messages you’ll be receiving from me each month. I firmly believe that the more open and transparent management is in a club, the more knowledgeable, supportive, and confident the membership is. Most of my letters will deal with club activities, policies, new innovations in service, and general information. Don’t worry though, I have no intention to “rock the boat,” only to steady the course. Organization, communication, visibility, and fiscal responsibility are main features of keeping a course.

So now, who am I? Good question. After nearly 3 months as Bar Manager, I have had an opportunity now to meet many of you and I always get this question, “So where did you come from?” I’m John Campbell. The CCM you see after my name is Certified Club Manager, I’ve been one since 1988. It takes years of experience, education, study, and a final 5-hour exam to become a CCM. I was born in Indianapolis, grew up in Louisville, graduated from Southern High School and went on to study Business Administration at Western Kentucky University.

I began working at clubs in 1975 and in 1977 I became Manager of Hurstbourne Country Club.  At 25 I was the youngest Club Manager in the United States. I spent the next 40 years managing several large, prestigious country clubs throughout the Midwest. These included Dayton Country Club, Findlay Country Club, and Highland Golf & Country Club in Indianapolis. I even returned after my retirement and served 3 more years at Hurstbourne. I was with the River Valley Club here in Louisville when the position became available here at the Bonnycastle. Being a hands-on manager and a people person, I fell a great deal of comfort at our club. With great employees, welcoming members, and a relaxed environment I knew I wanted to be a part of this group and last month, was made club manager.

Personally, I have been married 24 years to Sara (who many of you have met) who is currently Executive Vice President of Member services at PECAA, Professional Eye Care Associates of America. We live in Prospect, have two children, Maggie, who lives and Chicago and Jake who is a Sergeant in the Air Force and is currently stationed in Alaska, where he lives with his wife Taylor. We attend St. Elizabeth’s in Germantown where we are active members and we also enjoy traveling, both domestically and abroad.

This month’s letter has been rather lengthy, but there was much to cover. I hope this has given you somewhat of an insight as to who I am as well as some of my management philosophies. It’s great to be a part of the Bonnycastle family. Both my wife and I appreciate all your warm greetings, and I look forward to serving you for many years to come. In keeping with my goal of serving you better, my cell is (502) 424-6621 and my email is [email protected], if there is any concern or suggestion you wish to discuss, please feel free to contact me. I am more than happy to be of assistance. Remember, I am YOUR club manager.

Thank you,
J.C.
